Gladys Soto Hernandez was born in Tepic, Nayarit Mexico and raised in Boyle Heights, CA. She is a self-Taught artist who as a child dreamed of becoming a cartoonist and fashion designer.
Around the age of 11- 13 she would turn any piece of fabric into Barbie clothing or Hair accessories. During her teen years she began to focus on drawing cartoon characters and wedding dresses. In 1998 she went to college and decided to put her artistic imagination on hold.
In September 2015 she decided to start drawing again. Her Art shifted into what inspired her the most, (MEXICO). She then began to think how great her drawings would look on shirts, and learned to silk screen.
In November 2015 she had the opportunity to expose her new ideas, and was part of the Boyle Heights Farmers Market Day of the Dead Event. She took a couple shirts with her designs and found out that everyone loved them.
She then was inspired to show her passion of art through Hand made Jewelry, Folk Art, Home Decor, and Apparel. Most of her creations are inspired by Frida Kahlo, Posadas, and the Mexican celebration Dia De Los Muertos. With the support of her Mother and daughters, she attends many events and continues to share her art.
G. Soto takes pride in all her work, and does not keep anything in stock. She usually presents one of a kind items in pop up shops or events. The items shown on this site are made to order, and usually take 5 to 10 days to make depending on the item. She is also open to any ideas and loves to work on custom orders. All her work is priced decently as her focus is on sharing her art rather than making a profit.
